John Reid
Drums and Percussion
John first began playing drums at Primary School at the age of 12, then later at Oakleigh Technical School in the Army Cadet Brass Band.
After leaving school, John joined the Hawthorn City Pipe Band, where he learned precision drumming, which led to playing in a drum core that won at the Australian “A” grade Scottish Pipe Band championship.
In the mid sixties john became a member of a rock band named “The Movement” and stayed with the band for nearly a decade. The band were engaged with the Dennis Hotel chain, around Melbourne, also playing for private functions, as well as supporting “Doug Parkinson” and “Focus”.
By the nineties, John was freelancing with different bands, “Rimshot”, “The JimVickas Willace Band”, as well as other bands in and around Melbourne, and the Mornington Peninsula.
The latter years have seen John move to West Gippsland, where he continues to play in a variety of bands like “Takin Time”, “Country Livin” and at present “YesterYear”. With such a wide range of musical styles, such as Country, Oldtime, Folk/Ballads, and Classic Rock’n Roll, makes him a very versatile and an accomplished drummer.
John has also written lyrics for some songs, and hopes to have them recorded some day with “YesterYear”. John is still loving the music as much as when his career began, and his motto! Like the song says,
“May The Road Go On Forever”.
